  • Unlike traditional psychotherapy, Sand Tray Therapy does not emphasize the therapeutic relationship between client and therapist.

  • A Sand Tray therapist doesn't take a personal history or ask people to share their childhood experiences or painful memories.

  • Instead, the therapist creates a space for the client to tap into his or her own inner wisdom.

  • The therapist does not make any interpretation or judgment about the world created. For instance, a client may put a horse in the centre of the tray. For the client a horse might be their spirit animal - wild, free, and beautiful - or the client may have been kicked by a horse and in this world it is something to be feared.

  • It really isn't important what the therapist may think - the world was created by the client and only the meaning they ascribe is important.

  • This is not to say that the therapist is superfluous to the experience. Often the client may not understand aspects of their world and a few gentle questions from the therapist may illuminate the mystery and help to deepen the client's level of understanding.

  • At all times the client is in control of the session, determining their comfort level and willingness to go into the world.

  • It is a very respectful form therapy that focuses on self-exploration and self-understanding

  • Check out the testimonials page to read how clients describe the differences.
